Traceable back to the Roman times, snoballs are the world’s first frozen
dessert. In the 1920s, the ice treat became popular in Louisiana when
hand tools were used to create fluffy snow by shaving blocks of ice.
Ernest Hansen, one of the snoball stand pioneers in New Orleans,
invented and patented the first motorized ice block shaver in 1934
making the premium shaved ice treat a staple in the Big Easy.

With numerous flavors available, people can enjoy common flavors like
Cherry, Strawberry and Bubblegum to those adapted from traditional
New Orleans edibles like Praline, Bananas Foster and Mardi Gras King
Cake. Non-alcoholic versions of the Mojito, Fuzzy Navel, Margarita and
New Orleans Hurricane rank high among snoball favorites.

Although particularly enjoyable on a hot summer day, snoballs serve as
a tasty treat year-round. They are the perfect dessert, boasting fewer
calories than ice cream, pastries and lattes.
